چکیده

The function of a principal Na+/H+ antiporter, ShaA, of Bacillus subtilis, is required for the progression of the sporulation process. The step(s) in the sporulation process that requires the function of ShaA was determined. The period of time when the shaA-disrupted B. subtilis showed Na+ sensitivity during its sporulation was confined to the initial stage of sporulation. It was revealed that shaA mutation affects the two key regulatory proteins, σH and Spo0A∼P, that govern the global changes in the gene expression when cells undergo sporulation. S. Kosono

GerN, an endospore germination protein of Bacillus cereus, is an Na(+)/H(+)-K(+) antiporter.

GerN, a Bacillus cereus spore germination protein, exhibits homology to a widely distributed group of putative cation transporters or channel proteins. GerN complemented the Na(+)-sensitive phenotype of an Escherichia coli mutant that is deficient in Na(+)/H(+) antiport activity (strain KNabc). GerN also reduced the concentration of K(+) required to support growth of an E. coli mutant deficient...

Estimation of metabolizable energy equivalency of Bacillus Subtilis spore for male broiler chickens

There are many studies on the effects of probiotics on performance of broiler chickens, but none of them has evaluated the metabolizable energy (ME) equivalency values of probiotics. The aim of this study was to determine the metabolizable energy equivalency value of Bacillus subtilis spore and its potential for decreasing feed ME content and cost. One hundred seventy-six day-old male broilers ...

Catalytic properties of Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus members of the secondary cation/proton antiporter-3 (Mrp) family are revealed by an optimized assay in an Escherichia coli host.

Monovalent cation proton antiporter-3 (Mrp) family antiporters are widely distributed and physiologically important in prokaryotes. Unlike other antiporters, they require six or seven hydrophobic gene products for full activity. Standard fluorescence-based assays of Mrp antiport in membrane vesicles from Escherichia coli transformants have not yielded strong enough signals for characterization ...

Comparative characterization of silver nanoparticles synthesized by spore extract of Bacillus subtilis and Geobacillus stearothermophilus

Objective(s): Silver nanostructures have gathered remarkable attention due to their applications in diversefields. Researchers have recently demonstrated that bacterial spores are capable of reducing silver ions toelemental silver leading to formation of nanoparticles.Materials and Methods: In this study, spores of Bacillus subtilis and Geobacillus stearothermophilus wereemployed to produce sil...

The role of monovalent cation/proton antiporters in Na(+)-resistance and pH homeostasis in Bacillus: an alkaliphile versus a neutralophile.

Both neutralophilic Bacillus subtilis and alkaliphilic Bacillus firmus OF4 depend upon electrogenic Na+/H+ antiporters, which are energized by the gradients established by respiration-coupled proton extrusion, to achieve Na(+)-resistance and pH homeostasis when the external pH is very alkaline. The interplay of proton and sodium cycles is discussed. In B. subtilis, pH homeostasis, up to pH9, ca...
